William 'Scott' Light 1980 - Skiing, Tennis

UVM's first four-time All-American skier, Scott Light, a 1990 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was Ski Racing magazine's Collegiate Skier of the Year in 1978.

That winter, his sophomore season, Light won the combined slalom-giant slalom title at all the major eastern carnivals, was crowned the Eastern giant slalom champion and earned his second consecutive All-American honor.

Over his four years at UVM, Light finished in the top-10 in each of the alpine events at every NCAA Championship. As a senior, he served as captain of the 1980 team that captured the school's first national ski championship at Stowe. It was also UVM's first NCAA championship in any sport. Light also lettered in tennis during his years at Vermont.

After leaving UVM, Scott joined the Coors American Pro Skiing Tour, finishing 10th overall in 1980-81. The South Hero resident has also made the transition from snow skiing to water skiing. In 1986, he finished second in the men's slalom in the 1986 Vermont Water Skiing Championships.
