Edward G. Saba 1934 - Basketball, Football
Considered by many of his classmates and teammates as one of the finest football players ever to don the Green and Gold. A 1976 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, Eddie Saba played three years of varsity football and later played professionally for the Providence Steam Rollers of the Eastern Football Conference from 1935-40. Saba was a member of the 1933 All-New England squad, a great feat for any Catamount.
"His selection to the All-New England squad proves beyond a doubt that he was a quality player," says fellow Hall of Famer, Enos Ramon. "He was the best back I have ever seen! Eddie was a running back with speed, guts and a knowledge of the game," adds Ramon, himself one of the all-time great football players at Vermont.
In 1932, Saba scored three TDs against Norwich to snap a seven-year UVM losing streak to the Cadets. In addition to football, he was a standout basketball player for the Catamounts.
