N. Edward Bartlett Special Inductee - Athletic Business Manager
UVM's Athletic Business Manager for the last 29 years, N. Edward "Eddie" Bartlett, will join the athletic shrine which he so loves and has worked long hours towards its improvement. Inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 1975, Bartlett becomes the fifth special inductee since the Hall of Fame was originated in 1969.
A native of Montpelier, he has been very active in several civic organizations including the Burlington Kiwanis Club for the last 30 years, serving as its president and vice-president, in addition to being its secretary from 1948-54. "Eddie", along with fellow 1975 Hall of Fame selectee, "Whitney" Palmer, was instrumental in forming the Burlington Little League and the Burlington Boys Club. He was particularly fond of his work with the Boys Club, serving with the club the last 15 years, as its president and secretary for four years. Also Bartlett has been a member of the Boys Club's Board of Directors for 13 years, 1961-74.
Prior to arriving as the University's Athletic Business Manager, he was an office supervisor of collections at the Montpelier branch of the Green Mountain Power Corporation from 1935-41. Following his six-year stint with Green Mountain Power, he was Assistant Director of Camp Abnaki and the Vermont State YMCA from 1941-45.
Always active in athletics, Bartlett was the State Director of the Interscholastic Basketball Tournaments form 1951-58 and compiled records and authored the history of Vermont High School Basketball Tournaments, which were first sponsored by the University's Athletic Council. At UVM, he has been an advisor to the Varsity Club, 1960-72; the treasurer of the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, 1969-75; a member of the Executive Committee of the Athletic Hall of Fame, 1971-75 and its archivist since the inception of the Hall of Fame in 1969.
