University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame
Carrie DuBray 1997 - Track and Field
The Vermont school record holder in three track and field throwing events, Carrie DuBray, a 2007 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, was the 1997 co-winner of UVM's J. Edward Donnelly Award as the top women's student-athlete in her senior class. DuBray graduated with the Vermont records in the 20-pound weight (indoors), the shot put (indoors) and the discus (outdoors). She captured two individual America East titles and three New England crowns.
Her record indoor throws of 56'' 6.75" in the 20-pound weight and 47'' 5" in the shot put were set as a senior in 1997. That indoor season she won the New England Championship in the 20-pound weight and was fourth in the ECACs to qualify for the 1997 NCAA Indoor Championship. Her indoor shot put mark broke a UVM record that stood for 14 years. DuBray made her record discus throw of 147' 4" in April of her junior year. That season she was also the America East champion in the discus and finished seventh at the ECACs.
A native of Rutland, Vt., she made an immediate impact with the Catamounts winning the discus at the New England Outdoor Championship and finishing fourth at the ECACs as a freshman in 1995. She would earn All-New England outdoor honors three times and twice at the indoor championships. She capped her career as a senior in 1997 winning the America East outdoor title in the hammer throw.
DuBray received her degree in physical education from UVM in 1997. She went on to be an assistant coach for throwing events at both Vermont and Dartmouth for several years.
An outstanding rugby player since her days at UVM, DuBray has played for the New York Rugby Club and the U.S. Women's National Team. She helped lead New York to the 2005 National Championship and played for the U.S. Eagles in the 2006 World Cup in Edmonton, Alberta.
