Daniel M. Gasparino 1982 - Baseball

One of the all-time great catchers at Vermont - and in the ECAC - and a 1993 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, Dan Gasparino was the leader behind the plate when the Catamounts recorded 64 wins in four years and appeared in two ECAC New England Championship games.

While at Vermont, "Gaspo" established eight offensive marks and was ranked among the top defensive catchers in the nation. The 1982 ECAC New England Player of the Year, Gasparino and Kirk McCaskill led the Catamounts to the ECAC New England Championship game that season. In four years at Vermont, Gasparino committed only nine errors in 500 chances (.982), then an all-time career mark for catchers at Vermont and in New England. After his senior year, Gasparino ranked first in the following categories: hits (122), doubles (21), home runs (9), RBI (85), total bases (178), at bats (380), games played (116) and he finished second in batting average (.321).

Picked as the team's MVP in 1981, in one game at Virginia of the ACC that spring he banged out three home runs and accounted for 10 RBI, both UVM single-game marks. The team's captain in 1982, Gasparino was also tabbed All-New England and played in the NEIBA All-Star game at Fenway Park.

Drafted by the New York Yankees he played in their organization briefly following graduation. He earned a degree in economics/finance and has a career operating in the fixed income markets on Wall Street.
