Art Tudhope 1926 - Cross Country, Track and Field
This former distance runner was one of the most respected men associated with UVM athletics, and eventually earned his place in the Athletics Hall of Fame in 1976. An untiring worker, Art Tudhope, would put long hours into officiating track meets, organizing plans for athletic functions and serving on the University's Athletic Hall of Fame Executive Committee, once serving as the dinner chairman for the annual event.
A retired Army Officer (Lt. Col.), he served 35 years of active duty, retiring in 1959.
At UVM, he ran cross-country for four years (1922-25) and track (1923-26) and was also a member of the University's rifle team, then a varsity sport.
Besides athletics, he served on several committees during his undergraduate days, including the Faculty-Student Council, Ariel, Agriculture Club and was the Class Agent and manager of the college play in 1925 and 1926. He was also elected to the Scabbard and Blade Society, an academic honorary.
Immediately after graduation, he assisted track coach, Archie Post, before joining the Army for active duty. Art Tudhope passed away in 1974.
