Brandon Dyksterhouse 2000 - Skiing
One of the top alpine skiers in the nation during his four years and 2010 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, Brandon Dyksterhouse was a three-time All-American and a national champion in the giant slalom.
A gifted athlete known for his competitiveness on the slopes, Dyksterhouse finished his career at UVM with a sweep of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association titles and a second-place finish the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah as a senior.
Dyksterhouse burst on to the collegiate scene as a freshman in 1997, winning the NCAA National Title in the giant slalom and finishing third in the slalom at the NCAA Championship. He finished the season as the top alpine skier in the East by winning the giant slalom at the Eastern Championships as well. At the U.S. Nationals he placed eighth in the GS and 11th in the slalom. He is one of only 10 UVM men to win the NCAA GS crown in school history.
As a sophomore he posted four top-three finishes, including slalom wins at the UVM and Dartmouth Carnivals. As a junior he finished third in the slalom and fourth in the GS at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America honors for the second time in three years. That year he also finished eighth at the US Nationals in the slalom.
A team captain as a senior, Dyksterhouse was the recipient of the J. Edward Donnelly Award, given to the top male and female athlete in the UVM senior class.
Following graduation he was invited to train with the US Ski Team in the fall of 2001, as he finished seventh in the slalom at the US Nationals and was nationally ranked in the top 10 in the United States in the GS.
