Francis A. Winchenbach 1931 - Baseball, Football, Hockey, Track and Field
Francis A. Winchenbach, a 1973 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, is one of the few Vermont athletes ever to be awarded 13 letters during his intercollegiate days, four in football, three in baseball, and three in track and hockey.
At UVM, Winchenbach was a member of ATO, Nu Sigma Nu, the Sophomore Hop Committee, Medic Football, Class Basketball and was UVM's club boxing coach.
A physician while living in Bath, ME, Dr. Winchenbach was very active in civic and state affairs and was the leading figure in the implementation of the successful Maine Gold Association caddie scholarship golf program.
In an article in the Portland (Maine) Press, sports columnist Blaine Davis wrote, "Guiding hand behind the immensely successful Maine State Golf Association caddie scholarship program is Dr. Francis A. Winchenbach of Bath, who gives many hours to its administration."
Dr. Fred S. Kent, a 1972 UVM Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee, says, "A great athlete who had to earn a great share of his own expenses while attending school, playing sports and doing well in his studies."
