Scott Gabrielsen 1988 - Lacrosse
A two-time captain and one of the greatest professional indoor lacrosse players in history, Scott Gabrielsen, a 1998 UVM hall of Fame inductee, is one of the most dominant men's lacrosse players in the history of Vermont lacrosse. In 1986, Gabrielsen was named an All-American, the first UVM player ever to receive that honor.
A hard-nosed midfielder from Princeton, N.J., Gabrielsen was one of the nation's top faceoff men and a solid two-way player for the Cats. When he graduated, he was third in career goals with 96 and fourth in total points with 130 making him UVM's highest scoring midfielder. In his four seasons, he was a member of Catamount teams that won 38 games and lost only 16 - the second best four-year record in the program's history. That stretch included UVM's first-ever national top-20 ranking in 1984 and a school-record 11 victories in 1986. He received All-New England honors after his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and as a senior, he played in the prestigious North-South National Collegiate All-Star Game, played annually in Baltimore.
Following his graduation from UVM in 1988, Gabrielsen's lacrosse career continued with great success. Along with fellow Hall of Famer Scott Montgomery, he played for the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club in the U.S.C.L.A. from 1989 to 1993. Moving indoors in 1989, Gabrielsen played for ten seasons for the Philadelphia Wings of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League. The ironman of the M.I.L.L., Gabrielsen on March 21, 1998 became the first player in the history of indoor lacrosse to play in 100 games, including 96 consecutive.
He was a member of all five Wings championship teams (1989, 1990, 1994, 1995 and 1998) and finished his career scoring 65 goals and had 65 assists. Known as one of the league's top defenders, he is second in Wings' history with 375 career ground balls and was among the top faceoff men over his 10-year career. He also played in the 1990 MILL all-star game and was the Wings captain from 1993 to 1998..
