Gordon Allen 1997 - Lacrosse
One of the most prolific scorers in team history, Gordon Allen capped off an outstanding career in a Catamount uniform and was inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 2009. Allen finished his career third all-time in career points (189) and assists (73) and tied for third in career goals (116) at Vermont. He was one of only six players to score 100 or more career goals at UVM at the time of his graduation.
As a junior Allen scored 61 points on 29 goals and 32 assists. His 32 assists ranked as the fourth-most in a single season in school history, while his 61 points tied for the eighth-most. Allen's performance helped him earn All-New England Honorable Mention honors and a spot on the America East All-Conference Second Team.
Entering his senior year Allen was named a preseason Honorable Mention All-American by College Lacrosse USA. As a senior he led the team with 68 points on 46 goals and 22 assists. The 46 goals are the third-most in a single season in school history and the 68 points rank as the fifth-highest total. During his final year he was the second leading scorer in the America East, averaging 4.25 points per game. Allen also finished second in goals scored with and fourth in assists on his way to being named America East First Team All-Conference. Only one Catamount has earned first team honors from the league since Allen's nod.
In Allen's final season the Catamounts made their first postseason appearance in school history with a trip the ECAC Championship game. In the semifinal meeting with Mount St. Mary's, Allen scored the game-tying goal to send the contest into overtime and then the game-winning tally in the extra session to propel the Cats to a 16-15 victory, as he finished the day with six goals and an assist.
Allen became only the second player in UVM history to be selected to play in the prestigious North-South Senior Division I All-Star game. He also played in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association East-West Senior All-Star game following his senior year. During his senior season Vermont recorded 10 victories and received votes in the USILA poll on three different occasions. Allen was also named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in both 1996 and 1997.
