Dan Bokan 1990 - Soccer, Track and Field

The 1990 winner of the Semans Award for leadership, loyalty and service to UVM, four-time all-conference track and field performer, and 2007 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, Dan Bokan held six school records when he graduated. At the end of his career, Bokan owned Vermont records in the 400 hurdles, decathlon and pole vault outdoors as well as indoors. He was also a member of two record-setting relay teams, the 4x100 and 4x400 squads outdoors. He still holds two of those records: the decathlon, in which he scored 6,510 points in 1990; and the 4x100 relay team that he ran on with Mike Schaffer, Allen Currier and Will D'Andrea to set the school record of 42.25 seconds in 1989.

Twice the captain and most valuable performer on the track team, Bokan keyed Vermont's first-ever Eastern Championship in 1989 leading the team in individual points scored. He scored in six different events in that championship meet: the pole vault, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, 110 hurdles and the long jump.
In his first attempt at the decathlon, the event in which he is still the UVM record-holder, Bokan finished second at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1989.

A native of Haddonfield, N.J., Bokan also played on the Vermont men's soccer team in 1987 and in 1988, a season he started in 17 games at back as the team went 10-6-3. Bokan received his degree in business administration and was a member of UVM's Boulder Society. After graduation he played professional soccer in Philadelphia in 1991 and 1992. He returned to Vermont and is one of the founders and a board member of the Vermont Amateur Soccer League, a men's and women's league that features the area's premier soccer talents while mentoring area youth teams with free clinics and coaching.
