Robert L. Carlson 1942 - Baseball, Basketball
Another baseball star at Vermont, Bob Carlson, inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 1979, was considered one of the best pitchers of any of the Larry Gardner - coached teams at Vermont.
Bob had a career earned run average of less than 1.50. Against cross-town rival St. Michael's, in 54 innings, he allowed only four runs (two unearned) for a remarkable .004115 ERA. "One of the smallest pitchers I have ever played with," said teammate and 1972 UVM Hall of Fame Inductee, John Spasyk.
In addition to baseball, Bob played one season of varsity basketball and was an outstanding student, receiving the Wasson Athletic Prize in 1942, given to the outstanding senior student-athlete.
Carlson served for four years in the Army during World War II. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association County Agricultural Agents in 1956.
