University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame
Lisa M. Fernandez 1979 - Basketball, Field Hockey, Softball
One of the top all-around women's athletes in UVM athletic history, Lisa Fernandez, a 1989 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, was a standout in field hockey, basketball and softball.
She was probably best known for her achievements in field hockey, considering she was recognized as one of the top center halfbacks in the Northeast. Lisa was named to the Northeast College Field Hockey Association All-College Team four times and was select to the Northeast Regional Field Hockey first team in 1976. That same year, she was also picked for the Olympic Development camp. She finished her UVM career with 25 goals and 18 assists, remarkable numbers considering she was primarily a defensive player. The 25 goals and 18 assists was then a Vermont record. Lisa captained the 1978 team that finished 12-1-2, the best record in UVM history.
In addition to field hockey, she was a basketball and softball player at UVM and during the summer months she was considered one of the premier women players in the state.
Active off the playing fields as an athletic trainer, she has volunteered her services to the Vermont Shrine football team, the Vermont City Marathon, the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center for the U.S. Women's Ski Team and at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
