Anna Norgren Mahon 1996 - Track and Field

A 2006 UVM Hall of Fame inductee and the 1996 winner of the Semans Trophy for leadership, loyalty and service to Vemont Athletics, Anna Norgren Mahon was a standout thrower on the track and field team who distinguished her self on the national and international level after graduation.

Twice, in 2002 and 2003, she was the United States Outdoor Champion in the hammer throw and three times, in 2000, 2001 and 2004, she was the runner-up. Three times during the 2002 outdoor season, she set the U.S. record in the event.

She won the U.S. Indoor Championship in the weight throw in 2002 and 2003 and finished second in 2001 and 2004. In 2002 at the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden, her personal best throw was the best in the world that year.

After finishing second in the 2004 Olympic Trials, she earned a spot on the 2004 United States Olympic Team to become the third former Catamount track and field athlete to participate for the United States in the Olympic Games following UVM Athletic Hall of Famers Albert Gutterson '12 and Judi St. Hillaire '81. In Athens, she finished 29th in the qualifying round and did not advance to the finals.

At UVM, she set the school records in the hammer throw (167'10") and the 35-pound weight (54' 3.75"). She was described by former Vermont coach Ed Kusiak as "one of the finest individuals I have ever worked with in my career at UVM."

A four-time member of the America East Academic Honor Roll, she graduated with a degree in English and went on to receive her master's degree at Boston University. Mahon now lives in Orange, Conn. with her family and is an assistant track and field coach at Yale.
