Lori Taylor 1998 - Basketball
The 1998 women's winner of UVM's Wasson Athletic Prize for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, Lori Taylor was a standout point guard on the women's basketball team. A 2009 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, she finished as the program's all-time leader in assists and three-point field goals upon graduation. She was named to an all-conference team three straight seasons after earning all-rookie honors in 1995.
One of the most durable guards in Vermont history, she started all 114 games in her career and played 4,066 out of a possible 4,590 minutes (89%). Along with her 571 assists and 194 three-pointers, Taylor also finished eighth all-time at UVM in scoring (1,112 points) and third in both steals (209) and three-point field goal shooting (37.6%).
A native of Markham, Ontario, Taylor was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman after averaging 12.5 points and 3.9 assists per game. She led the team with a then-school-record 52 three-pointers. She was an all-conference second team selection as a sophomore in 1995-96 when she extended her three-point field goal record with 55. She was fifth in the conference in assists with 136, the third most in a single-season at Vermont.
As a junior, she dished out 177 assists, the second most in a single season at Vermont, while earning third-team all-league honors. She led the America East in assists averaging 6.1 per game and ranked 14th in the nation. The Catamounts went 21-8 in 1996-97, finished second in the conference (14-4) and reached the America East title game.
She wrapped up her career with an excellent senior season and was named to the America East All-Conference Third Team after helping lead the Catamounts to the league's regular season title and another trip to the championship game. She was named to the America East All-Championship Team after knocking down 17-of-24 three-pointers in the three-game tournament including the game-tying and game-winning treys inside the last 43 seconds in Vermont's 72-69 quarterfinal win over Towson. Taylor led the team in assists with 154 and was second in the league averaging 5.3 per game. She was also tops in the conference in three-point shooting making 53 3-pt FGs at 39%.
An excellent student, Taylor graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in business administration. Taylor was also named to the America East Academic Honor Roll all four seasons.
