Richard D. Emberley 1979 - Track and Field
A top track and field star in the late 1970s, Rich Emberley, a 1994 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, at one time held six indoor and six outdoor UVM track and field records. Two of the dozen records stood for at least ten years- the 400-meter run both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, Emberley covered distance in 49.73 seconds in 1979 while he clocked a 48.8 outdoors in 1978.
He was a very versatile performer scoring points at several events. Other records he held at one time include the triple jump (46-2), the 45-yard hurdles (5.9), the 50-meter hurdles (7.0), the 60-yard hurdles (7.7), the 440-yard high hurdles (54.8) and the 120-yard high hurdles (15.0). In the latter event, Emberley held the state record for many years. Emberley was also a part of three record-setting relay teams.
