Chris McCabe 1991 - Lacrosse

A two-time All-New England performer and a two-time MVP of the men's lacrosse team, Chris McCabe, was one of the best goalies in Catamount history and he went on to a solid professional and international career before earning induction into the UVM Hall of Fame in 2002.

In 1991, his senior season, McCabe led the nation in save percentage stopping 69.3 percent of the shots on goal. His .693 save percentage is also the best ever in Vermont history for one season and also that season McCabe set another UVM single-season record with 260 saves. McCabe holds three of the top five single season save percentage records, posting a .646 mark in 1990 (fourth) and .623 in 1989 (fifth). He is first all-time in career saves with 712; second all-time in career save percentage (.659), third all-time in career goals-against average (9.91) and third in career wins (20). His 9.09 GAA in 1991, when the Cats went 8-6, is fourth best in UVM history, while his 9.63 mark in 1990 is sixth all-time.

McCabe was in net for all of the team's victories his final two years, nine in 1990 (when the team went 9-5 and was ranked nationally for the first time in program history) and eight in 1991. He was also selected for the North team in the National North-South Senior All-Star game in 1991, the second-ever Catamount lacrosse player and the first goalie, to play in that game. Fellow Hall of Famer Scott Gabrielsen was the first in 1988.

Following his graduation from UVM with a degree in agricultural and resource economics, McCabe was an assistant coach at Harvard for three years. He also played professionally for the Boston Blazers, the second-ever Vermont product in the big leagues, and was the starting goalie on the Brine Lacrosse Club that was national runner-up in 1992 and national champion in 1993 and 1994. He was all-league for Brine in 1993 and 1994, and played for the Brine USA All-Stars versus Team Canada in Vancouver in a tuneup for the 1994 World Games.
