Dr. David B. Sequist 1963 - Football, Track and Field
Without a doubt, Dave Sequist, a 1985 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was one of the strongest linemen to play for a Catamount football squad. Very quick and versatile, he also competed for the Vermont track and field teams.
Sequist's best year on the gridiron was his senior campaign of 1962 when he was named first-team All-East as a guard. He was the UVM captain that year under first-year coach Bob Clifford and was one of only two Yankee Conference players named to the ECAC College Division North team. He was also named to the All-New England and All-State teams that same year.
Sequist performed in the shot put, discus, hammer throw, and half-mile run for Vermont's track teams, further displaying his unique blend of speed, strength, and flexibility.
At the 1963 Senior Awards Banquet, Sequist was presented with the Wasson Athletic Prize, "awarded to the male and female members of the senior class who have maintained the highest standard of academic scholarship and athletic attainment." He went on to Cornell University and in 1967 received his doctorate in veterinary medicine.
