Sally Knight Utter 1993 - Skiing

A four-time first-team All-American and the 1992 Giant Slalom national champion, Sally Knight Utter, a 2003 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, was a dominant skier in the early '90s. The top-ranked collegiate skier in the East in slalom for four years and in the GS for three of her four years, Utter captained the Catamounts in 1992 and 1993 and was the 1993 winner of the J. Edward Donnelly Award as the top female student-athlete at the school.

A consistent and tactically outstanding skier, Utter won 24 of 44 collegiate races she entered. During her UVM career, she won five individual Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) titles: the slalom in 1990, 1992 and 1993 and the GS in 1991 and 1992. Her talents helped the Catamounts to two NCAA championships (in 1990 and 1992) and two second place finishes (1991 and 1993) in one of the greatest four-year runs in school history. During the 1992 season, Utter represented the United States at the World University Games in Sapporo, Japan, coming away with a seventh-place finish in the slalom.

While at Vermont, Utter was active in the Kids and Kops program, and her charitable work has continued. She started the Camp For Me, a day camp for adopted children that came about through her work with the Vermont Children's Aid Society and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. A secondary dducation (English) major at UVM, Knight was named in 2000 a national winner of the "Texaco Star" Award from the United States Ski and Snowboard Association in 2000 for her efforts on behalf of adopted children.

Before coming to Vermont, Utter was a member of the U.S. Ski Team from 1985 to 1989, finishing seventh in the slalom in the World Junior Championship and third in the U.S. Nationals in 1987 and was also named Junior Alpine Skier of the Year that same year. A native of Waitsfield, Vermont, Knight also skied on the Women's Professional Ski Tour, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 1994.
