Kirk Dice 1978 - Skiing, Tennis

A two-sport standout at UVM, Kirk Dice, inducted into the UVM Hall of Fame in 1995, earned All-America honors in skiing in 1977, and was also the number- one singles player on the tennis team. He earned letters in both sports all four years, and was All-East in skiing in 1975 and 1976. His best individual finishes in skiing were a fifth place at the NCAAs in 1976; a second-place finish at the Eastern Championships in 1975 and 1976 in the slalom; and first place in the Corcoran Cup in 1974. He also finished second in the Corcoran Cup in 1975.

Because of the depth of the men's alpine team that placed him third in the NCAAs in 1977, Dice did not make the UVM's four-man team but participated as an individual. He finished fifth I the slalom, earning second-team All-America honors. The irony is if Dice had been in UVM's four-man rotation, the points he earned would have been enough for UVM to win the national championship.

In tennis, Dice recorded an overall singles record of 26-4 and a double mark of 27-2 while playing either number one or two singles and doubles. During his career, UVM won three consecutive Yankee Conference championships, and Dice was the number-one singles champion once, runner-up once and number-two singles champ once during that time. He was also part of doubles teams that won three championships. In 1975, Kirk won the Cardinal Classic singles championship at Plattsburgh State. A two-time captain of the tennis team under Coach Hal Greig, he was winner of the Fred Carpenter Award in 1974, making the most individual progress of anyone on the team.

After graduating from UVM, Dice skied professionally for three seasons (1978-81) and finished eighth overall on the Coors Pro Tour in 1980.
