Dr. Clyde O. Lord 1959 - Basketball

One of the finest basketball players Vermont has ever had, Dr. Clyde Lord, a 1974 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, is the only Vermont athlete ever selected to the All-Yankee Conference First-Team for each of his three varsity years (1956-59).

Lord finished his career as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,308 points and his mark stood until 1970. Lord set his career scoring mark in just 67 games and his 19.5 points per game scoring average was the school's best until 1996.

In 1956-57, Lord became the first Catamount to average 20 points per game when he tallied 20.2 points per game, another UVM single-season mark. Despite his 6-2 height, he played the center and was a standout for three seasons, gaining the respect of his opponents for his aggressiveness under the boards and his uncanny scoring touch from inside. Captain of the team in 1957-58, each year he was on the team the Catamounts posted a winning record compiling a 42-25 (.629) three-season record.

Lord was an excellent student at UVM winning the Wasson Athletic Prize for academic scholarship and athletic achievement in 1959. He went on to a lengthy career as a physician in the Atlanta area.
