Katie Quinn Burns 1992 - Softball

The most dominant pitcher in UVM softball history, Katie Quinn Burns is the all-time leader in all six pitching categories and also won the Sunderland Memorial Trophy for overcoming obstacles. Diagnosed with scoliosis, or curvature of the spine, Katie had corrective surgery as a child and went on to become a top-notch collegiate athlete. A 2002 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, she has since run in three marathons, two New York City Marathons and one Boston Marathon.

A first-time All-New England selection as a sophomore and an honorable mention pick as a junior, Katie was named first-team All-Conference as a senior as well as a two-time MVP of the team. She was also named to the Northeast Region second team in 1991.

Her career statistics are staggering. In 98 games, she threw 67 complete games and allowed 102 earned runs in 538-2/3 innings for a 1.33 earned-run average. She struck out 406 batters while walking only 96 and giving up 365 hits. Her career won-loss record was 43-35.

During her years at UVM, the Catamounts finished second in the ECAC Championships twice (in 1989 and 1990) and second in the North Atlantic Conference tournament in 1992.

She is UVM's all-time career leader in strikeouts, wins, ERA, game pitched, complete games and innings pitched. In addition, she is the single-season leader in wins (15, 1990, ERA (0.43, 1990), complete games (20, 1989), game pitched (31, 1990), innings pitched (164.2, 1990) and strikeouts (150, 1990). During her four-year career, the Catamounts were 76-65 overall.
