Edwin Beck, Jr. 1957 - Baseball, Football

An All-Yankee Conference and All-New England halfback, Eddie Beck, a 1971 UVM Hall of Fame inductee, captained both football and baseball at Vermont.

Although he was best known for his exploits on the gridiron, Beck was also a standout on the baseball field, evidenced by the fact that he was the recipient of the Charles Stroh Trophy in 1954 at the Annual Lettermen's Dinner. The Stroh's will to win and ability to deliver base hits "in the clutch". In addition to the Stroh Trophy, Beck was presented the Seman's Trophy, which is given annually to a senior for outstanding qualities of leadership, loyalty and service to the University, active participation in athletics and winning respect and regard of his fellow students.

While captain of the baseball team under Ralph Lapointe (Athletic Hall of Fame inductee in 1969), his club recorded an 18-6 mark, one of the best winning percentages (.750) ever at Vermont. In football, Beck finished his career as the career-scoring leader, which included most touchdowns in a season and career, and he held the single-season rushing record.
