Alexandra Lawson 1997 - Basketball
A two-time first team all-conference forward and 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Alexandra Lawson was the co-recipient of the 1997 J. Edward Donnelly Award as the most outstanding senior women’s athlete at UVM.
Lawson finished her standout four-year career ranked fifth at UVM in scoring with 1,285 points, sixth in rebounding with 601 boards while ranking among the leaders in field goals, field goal percentage and blocked shots.
Named to the all-conference first team in 1995-96 as a junior and as a senior in 1996-97, she also picked up America East All-Championship honors in each of the two seasons.
A reserve as a freshman behind UVM Hall of Famer Sheri Turnbull '94, Lawson moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and she was third on the Catamounts in scoring (10.2 ppg) and fourth in rebounds (6.6).
Her junior year was Lawson's best season as she scored 20 or more points in 14 of UVM’s 29 contests and reached double-figures 27 times including the final 23 games. She was among the conference leaders averaged 18.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game and in league games she averaged 19.3 points and 8.4 boards.
Lawson’s 545 points and 216 field goals were at the time the fourth-most in a single season at Vermont. She helped lead the Catamounts (18-11) to the conference title game averaging 20 points and 7.7 rebounds in three playoff games including a career-high 34 (with 10 rebounds) in a semifinal win over UNH.
A captain in 1996-97, Lawson opened her senior season earning a spot on the Howard Bank Classic All-Tourney Team when the field featured national powers Tennessee and Marquette.
En route to averaging 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, she reached double figures 26 times and recorded seven double-doubles. She ranked 10th in America East in scoring and rebounds, and was second in free throw percentage (80.4%) and fourth in field goal shooting (50.9%).
Vermont (21-8) reached the conference title game for the second straight season where she scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds at Maine in her final collegiate game.
The native of Alymer, Quebec was a team captain as a senior and she received her degree in business administration.
Following graduation Lawson played professional for three seasons overseas, two in a league in Portugal and one in a league in New Zealand.
