Tony Adams Special Inductee - Media
A familiar face around UVM who received induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999, Tony Adams was recognized for his nearly 50 years of award-winning broadcasting and his longtime support of the Catamounts.
A native of Manchester, New Hampshire, Adams served as Sports Director at WCAX-TV (Channel 3) for 35 years, stepping down in 1989. While sports director at the station, Adams became an established part of the local and regional sports landscape by hosting the popular 15-minute sports segment on the evening newscasts. Adams was also the voice of UVM football, basketball and baseball for nearly 20 years, as well as the play-by-play man for the New Hampshire-Vermont Shrine high school football game. After UVM stopped playing football, he became the voice of Dartmouth College football for 10 years.
Long known for his traditional nightly sign-off, "Good Night, Good Sports," Adams was honored numerous times during his 35-years career at WCAX. He won the ECAC Media Award in 1978 for his outstanding coverage of intercollegiate athletics in New England. He was named Vermont Sportscaster of the Year five times, and was honored as Vermont Broadcaster of the Year in 1989, the year he retired.
Since 1989, Adams has been inducted into the Norwich University Athletic Hall of Fame, and has been honored by the Vermont chapter of the National Football Foundation. He is also a charter member of the Vermont Broadcasters' Hall of Fame. Adams also lended his considerable expertise to UVM basketball radio broadcasters. Much of his free time is spent at Fletcher Allen Health Care where he has served as a volunteer for more than a decade.
