Roy J. Greene 1960 - Football, Track and Field
One of the top scholar-athletes to attend UVM and a 1990 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, Roy Greene's success on the playing fields carried over to the business world. A Wasson Athletic Prize winner in the spring of his senior year, Greene was a running back and played in the secondary for the Catamount football team in the late 1950s.
At Vermont, Greene averaged four yards per carry and fumbled only twice in three varsity seasons. He led the team in rushing and passing receiving while scoring 102 career points. An All-Yankee Conference selection for two years, he was also nominated for Little All-America in 1959. Greene served as captain of the 1959 squad that compiled a 4-3 record under then-head coach J. Edward Donnelly, who also was the athletic director at Vermont until his retirement in 1973. "Roy was a tremendous leader and a very spirited player," remembers Donnelly.
In addition to football, Greene lettered for two seasons in track an field specializing in the 100 and 200-yard dashes.
Following his graduation from UVM, with a degree in economics, Greene attended the University of Toronto where he received his master's degree in business in 1964. He began his successful business career with Ford Motor Company, before joining Subaru Intermountain as its general manager in 1975.
