Claudette Thibault Delorge 1983 - Soccer, Softball
A 1995 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee who was 0ne of the most dominant athletes in New England softball during her career, Claudette Thibault Delorge compiled some amazing statistics at UVM.
Feared by opponents and highly recruited by Division I powers out of high school, Claudette was one of the top pitchers in UVM history. Despite being hampered by a shoulder injury, she threw at least two no-hitters and several more one- and two-hitters. In one of her better individual performances, she held nationally ranked Sacred Heart to one hit through six innings and allowed only one run. In 1980, Thibault Delorge was 7-3-1 with 44 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.98.
Against New Hampshire in 1981, she pitched the only perfect game in UVM history, allowing no hits through 10 innings. She finished that year with a 1.43 ERA and a 5-1 record.
In 1982, Thibault Delorge sat out the season after having surgery on her rotator cuff. During that season, she served as a student assistant coach under then-head coach Sally Guerette, an assistant athletic director at UVM.
She came back in 1983 to compile a 5-6 record with 33 strikeouts and a 1.08 ERA. For her career, Thibault Delorge, was 17-10, pitched 199.3 innings, allowed 52 earned runs, struck out 111 while walking 61, and she compiled a career ERA of 1.46. In three years she played in 44 of 59 games, 28 as a pitcher and 16 in the field.
In addition to her exploits on the diamond, Thibault Delorge was one of the goalies on the women's soccer team in 1979. That team was 14-3, recorded eight shutouts and advanced to the AIAW Tournament.
A physical education major, Thibault Delorge won the department's Outstanding Student award as a senior. She was also the recipient of the Sunderland Award, which is presented to the senior athlete who has exhibited qualities of character, leadership and persistence in overcoming obstacles.
