LOWELL, Mass. – Emilie Cloutier scored 16 points, two shy of her career high to pace the Vermont Catamounts, but Shannon Samuels led all scorers with 25 points to lead the UMass Lowell Riverhawks to a 72-63 victory in America East women's basketball action at the Tsongas Center on Sunday.
UMass Lowell improves to 8-12 overall and 2-6 in America East. The Catamounts fall to 3-16 on the year and 0-7 in America East.

Katie Lavelle and
Kaylea Britton each added 10 points and combined for 12 rebounds.
Jasmine McRoy posted a double-double for the Riverhawks with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Lindsey Doucette added 12 points.
Vermont led 8-7 at the 16:08 mark of the first half, but the Riverhawks responded with a 13-4 run, behind six points from Samuels, to take a 20-12 lead with 10:37 remaining in the half.
Vermont trimmed the lead to six on a layup by
Kayla Burchill at the 7:23 mark, but UMass Lowell pushed back out to a 12-point advantage. The Catamounts closed the half with a 10-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer from
Kylie Atwood, to climb back within four. The Riverhawks scored just before the halftime horn to take a 37-31 lead into the break.
UMass Lowell opened the second half with a 7-2 spurt to push its lead to 11. Vermont cut the advantage to seven on a layup by Britton, but the Riverhawks responded with a 14-4 run to open up a 17-point lead on the Catamounts with 9:31 remaining.
A 3-pointer by Burchill sliced the lead to eight, 62-54, with 3:53 left in the half. But UMass Lowell went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the last 2:20 of the contest to secure the win.
Vermont returns to Patrick Gymnasium to host the Albany on Thursday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online via
