BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Catamounts (4-1-3) gear up for their second match of a three-match road trip against NEC foe Stonehill (1-6-0), in the team's final non-conference matchup of the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1:00 p.m. from North Easton, Mass. at W.B. AYER RECOGNITION
- Topdrawersoccer.com released its Women's Soccer Team of the Week for September 9, featuring Vermont's very own senior midfielder Bailey Ayer as a honorable mention. Ayer was one of two America East players to be mentioned in this week's Team of the Week.
- Ayer has had a dominate start to the season, registering 16 points in eight games on seven goals and two assists. Her seven goals thus far is currently tied for 9th throughout every Division 1 program in the country. She ranks first in the America East conference in goals scored while her shots taken is ranked second and her shots on target is ranked first. She also stands alone at the top of the America East rankings in total points, securing 16 total on her seven goals and two assist. Nationally, Ayer ranks 13th in the total points category.
- Ayer was named America East Offensive Player of the Week after scoring seven points in a 5-0 win over Siena via three goals and one assist, the most points for a Catamount in nearly 20 years. Nikki Hennesy had seven on Sept. 11, 2005. This is Ayer's first career America East Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor.
VERMONT OUTLOOK
- Vermont has spread the wealth through the first half the season with eight different goal scorers. Ayer leads Vermont with seven goals, including two game winners and one hat-trick. Ayer recorded a goal in five of the first six games of the season. Bossert is second on the team in points with seven after registering two goals against Siena, one goal against Sacred Heart and an assist against FDU. Sydney Remington is tied for third on the team in points after scoring the game-winning goal against Sacred Heart and one assist against Boston University. Lauren DeGroot is also tied for third on the team in points with three after registering a goal against Saint Anselm and an assist against UConn. Freshman Farrah Yaacoub scored her first career goal against Saint Anselm and Sophomore's Emma Warren and Aubrey Bough each tallied their first career goals, Bough against UConn and Warren versus Boston University. Midfielders Elizabeth Sommeling, and Jill Brody each have recorded an assist for Vermont as well.
- Brody ranks 7th in the America East Conference in shots, earning 19 total thus far.
- Senior Tessa Weiss scored the game-winning goal against Holy Cross to secure her first goal of the season.
- Sophomore defender Bridget Kennedy scored her first career point against Siena after recording one assist.
- Bossert scored her third goal of the season versus Sacred Heart and had her third career multi goal game after scoring twice against Sienna, her first goals of the season. Bossert is tied for 7th overall in goals scored throughout the America East conference and 6th in total points (7). Bossert is also tied for 11th in the AE conference for total shots, earning 17 thus far.
- Kylee Carafoli has the fourth lowest goals against average in the America East Conference a 1.111.
- So far during the month of September, the Catamounts have outscored their opponents 9-2, earning two shutouts and only allowing one goal, twice.
- Vermont leads the America East in average goals per match, averaging 2 goals a match.
- The Catamounts return four America East All-Conference members from their 2023 squad, Bossert, Ayer, Kennedy, and Maddy Cronin.
- Vermont was picked to finish fifth in the America East 2024 Women's Soccer Preseason Coach's Poll.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
- Stonehill is the newest member of the Northeast Conference, competing in its third season at the NCAA D1 level.
- Stonehill enters Sunday's matchup with a 1-6-0 record coming off a 4-1 loss to Maine on Sunday, Sept. 8.
- The Skyhawks have faced three America East teams so far this season, New Hampshire, Bryant, and Maine, going 0-3 and being outscored 11-1. Overall, Stonehill has been shut out five times. Their lone victory came at home vs Quinnipiac, winning 1-0.
- Stonehill is led by senior Grace Caso and freshman Martha Lord, who each have one goal on the season. Lord scored a thrilling game winner against Quinnipiac to earn the Skyhawks their first win of the season.
- Vermont holds a 2-0-0 all-time record against Stonehill, winning 4-0 during the 2022 season and 3-1 during last year's campaign.
