BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Vermont women's basketball team hosts Maine, its longest standing rival, on Wednesday at Patrick Gymnasium. The Catamounts have won two of their last three, but are coming off a 71-64 loss at UMBC on Saturday. Vermont stands at 5-20 overall and 2-11 in America East. Maine owns a record of 19-6 overall and is 11-1 in America East. The Black Bears have won 11 straight, including a 57-49 win over Stony Brook on Sunday.

Niki Taylor matched her career high and posted her 10th double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds for Vermont, but the Catamounts dropped a 71-64 decision at the RAC ... UMBC's Taylor McCarley scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Retrievers to the victory ... McCarley stuffed the stat sheet, adding five rebounds, six assists and five steals ... UVM led 15-14 after a pair of free throws by Kylie Butler with 7:53 left in the first half, but UMBC answered with an 11-3 run to pull out to a 25-18 lead and went into the locker room ahead 31-24 ... The Retrievers, who went 24-for-32 from the foul line in the game, opened up a double-digit lead early in the second half ... Vermont cut the margin to five on a basket by Taylor with 11 minutes remaining in the game ... UMBC pushed back out to a 12-point lead and led 60-50 with just under two minutes remaining ... Vermont kept battling, climbing back within four on a three-point play by Taylor with 31 seconds left, but UMBC held off the Catamounts by making three of four free throws in the final 25 seconds to seal the victory.
