McColgan and Sweet Both National Runner-Ups on Day Two of NCAA Championships

HANOVER, NH. – On the first day of Nordic competition at the 2025 NCAA Skiing Championships, Annie McColgan and Finn Sweet each placed second in the 7.5K Classic Individual Start from Oak Hill, earning both skiers First Team All-American honors. McColgan's raced to her third podium appearance this season and Sweet skied to his second podium of the season. After the second day of competition, UVM sits in fourth place with 208 points. Host school Dartmouth took the overall lead after a strong Nordic showing, leading with 267.5 points. They hold a 5.5-point advantage over Colorado at the halfway point.

McColgan placed second for Vermont with a time of 23:54.4 continuing her stellar season. Utah's Erica Laven won the national title with a time of 23:43.3. Kristin Maltun Helland placed 13th for the Catamounts with a time of 25:17.4, securing 18 team points. Molly Moening rounded out the top 20, placing 20th with a time of 25:49.6, capturing 11 total team points. Overall, UVM women's Nordic garnered 66 total team points on the day, the third most in the field.
 
Sweet finished in second place during the 7.5K classic individual start, racing a time of 21:08.1, earning silver during day two of the NCAA Championships. Dartmouth's John Steel Hagenbuch took home the national title, skiing a time of 20:52.8. Petter Bakken placed 17th overall for the Catamounts with a time of 22:57.5, earning 14 crucial team points for UVM. Luke Rizio finished 27th racing a time of 23:41.8.
 
The Alpine portion of the Championships will wrap up tomorrow, Friday (Mar. 7) with the men's and women's giant slalom from The Skiway in Etna, NH. The action will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The women's first run begins at 9:30 a.m. while the men's first run commences at 10:25 a.m.
