Catamounts Fall in Overtime to Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Ashley Sofilkanich hit four free throws in the last 25 seconds of overtime to help Bucknell (4-4) defeat Vermont (4-6).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams began by trading buckets, with the Catamounts taking a 9-6 lead into the first media timeout. Keira Hanson had five, while Bella Vito and Malia Lenz had two.
  • After the media timeout, the teams each scored four the rest of the quarter to give Vermont a 13-10 first-quarter lead.
  • Vito and Catherine Gilwee each had two for the Catamounts in the final four minutes of the first quarter.
  • The Bison opened the second quarter on a 9-4 run heading into the second media timeout. Hanson and Gilwee each had two for Vermont.
  • The teams finished the half, putting up five each, with three from Vito and two from Anna Olson.
  • Bucknell opened the third quarter on a 4-0 run before Lenz scored four straight to bring the Catamounts in two.
  • Vermont went on a 6-3 to retake the lead, 32-31. Sarah Lazar, Nikola Priede, and Vito had two in the run.
  • The Bison retook a 34-32 lead heading into the third media timeout when Ashley O'Connor hit her third three-pointer.
  • The Catamounts finished the third quarter on a 4-0 thanks to four points from Olson to tie it up at 36 all.
  • Bucknell opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run, pushing it to 42-38 before Olson hit two free throws to make it 42-40.
  • Isabella King scored with just under four minutes left in the fourth quarter to make it 44-40, which remained the score until the final media timeout.
  • The Catamounts went on a 6-2 run out of the media timeout to tie it at 46 all. Olson had four, while Hanson had the driving layup with a minute left to tie it.
  • The teams played back-and-forth in the final minute of regulation, with Vermont taking a 50-48 lead with 20 seconds to go before Ashley Sofilkanich had a layup with 16 seconds to go to force the extra period.
  • The Bison opened overtime on an 8-2 run with Olson's layup 11 seconds in the lone basket.
  • The Catamounts responded with a 5-0 run with a three from Hanson and two from Olson to bring Vermont within one.
  • Bucknell closed the game out thanks to four free throws from Sofilkanich in the last 25 seconds.
  • Olson had the lone bucket for Vermont with 17 seconds to go in between the free throws.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Olson led the Catamounts in scoring with 20 points. Hanson and Vito were second and third with 14 and nine, respectively.
  • Priede led Vermont on the boards with seven followed by Vito and Lenz, who had six and four respectively.
  • Gilwee led the Catamounts in distributing the ball with four assists. Vito and Sarah Ericson followed suit with two each.
