WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTEBOOK
Vermont (4-8-2, 0-4-2 AE) will travel to Newark, New Jersey to take on NJIT (3-7-6, 0-4-2 AE) at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on Sunday, October 23. The match is schedule to start at 12 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3.

NEW JERSEY NATIVES
Several members of the Catamount team are from New Jersey including key contributors senior
Karen Wallace and junior
Jazlyn Oviedo. Wallace, a Tinton Falls, New Jersey native has been solid for the Catamounts in her senior season recording two goals across 14 games and seven starts. Oviedo, originally from Clifton, New Jersey, has started 12 of the 14 games she has played in controlling the middle of the field for Vermont and contributing an assist with nine shots on the season.
Jen Fernandez an Old Tappan, New Jersey native has also seen time in 11 games for UVM registering a 50 percent shot on goal average this season.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT comes into today's matchup following a tie with conference foe UAlbany on Sunday, October 16. First year Riley Jones scored her first goal of the season and the Highlanders finished in a 1-1 draw with the Great Danes. The Highlanders are led by a balanced attack that features five players with four points or more. Senior Bailey Chant leads the way with five points on two goals and one assist. Sophomores Ciara Adams and Carolina Caputo as well as first year Kelsey Ramos have also added two goals apiece. Sophomore Aleesha Deshmukh leads the team with three assists. NJIT is anchored in net by redshirt senior Molly Saylor who has started and played every game on way to a league leading 81 saves and 5.40 saves per game. Saylor has also registered all three victories for the Highlanders with a 1.10 goals against average and an .835 save percentage.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Sunday's game will be the third matchup between Vermont and NJIT, all coming as America East foes. The Catamounts have taken the first two matchups outscoring the Highlanders 4-1. In the Covid-shortened spring 2021 season UVM traveled to New Jersey where they bested NJIT 2-1 with
Fiona Doherty scoring a goal in that game, on an
Abbey Knobel assist. The Catamounts also defeated the Highlanders 2-0 in the 2021 full season at Virtue Field, where
Frances O'Donnell contributed a goal in that victory.
WHO'S NEXT
Following Sunday's contest in New Jersey the Catamounts will return home for their final game of the season on Thursday, October 27. Vermont will host UAlbany at Virtue Field at 6 p.m. with the game being broadcast live on ESPN+. Thursday's matchup with UAlbany will be the Catamounts' annual Military Appreciation game presented by Milton Cat. We encourage fans to visit with our friends from
Josh Pallotta Fund, a local non-profit providing critical services to veterans and active military personnel. As a thank you to those that have served or are currently serving, all military personnel will receive a complimentary ticket to the game with a valid military ID. Thursday, will also be the Catamounts make-up poster day where signed posters of the team will be passed out as fans enter Virtue Field.
