GREAT WALL OF KESSEL
Senior goaltender
Lydia Kessel has continued her fine form for UVM this season. She is currently tied for first in America East with 55 saves. She's played eight contests this year and leads the league with 6.88 saves per game.
Â
HISTORIC MEMORIES FOR KESSEL IN ORONO
Lydia Kessel made a career-high 20 saves as Vermont battled to a 1-1 draw at Maine last April. Kessel's 20 saves were the second-most by a Division I men's or women's goalkeeper in a single game last season. Only Southern University's Chioma Eriken, who made 22 saves against LSU on March 5, had more in a single game last season.
Â
BASA AND OVIEDO LEAD THE WAY
Cricket Basa and
Alyssa Oviedo are tied for the team lead in scoring with five points. Both have registered two goals and one assist this year for the Catamounts. During the abbreviated spring 2021 campaign Basa was also Vermont's leading scorer.
Â
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Like the Catamounts Maine has dropped its first two conference games, falling 1-0 at home against UMBC and at NJIT last weekend. Maine is a veteran-heavy squad with 10 seniors and one graduate student. Five Black Bears have scored this season for Maine but only sophomore midfielder Delaney LaBonte has two goals this year.
Â
Vermont and Maine will both be looking to hit the scoresheet for the first time in conference play Thursday evening. UVM scored 10 goals in its first four games but has only scored twice in its last five. Maine has scored only twice in its last four games.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Catamounts are looking to continue their recent success against the Black Bears. UVM has only lost once in the last eight years (3-1-4) and leads the all-time series 16-10-6. The two rivals have played some competitive matches for most of the series. The last 14 matchups have been decided by one goal or less with the exception of the 2011 contest – a 3-1 victory by the Catamounts in Burlington.
