BURLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont led wire-to-wire Tuesday night as they opened the 2021-22 regular season with an 87-57 win over Merrimack in non-conference action from Patrick Gym. The Catamounts 30-point win was their largest in a home opener against a Division I opponent since 2001.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont started fast on Tuesday night and never looked back. The Catamounts started with an 15-4 push fueled by four points apiece from Emma Utterback and Anna Olson. UVM led 26-15 after the first quarter. It was the Catamounts first 26-point first quarter since November 8, 2019.
- In the final 3:15 of the first half UVM extended its advantage with a 13-0 run. Delaney Richason had six points in the run and Maddy Smith scored five points in the final 52 seconds of the half as the Catamounts led 52-25 at the break.
- Late in the third quarter Aryana Dizon and Maria Myklebust scored their first career points for the Catamounts in a 6-0 run that pushed UVM's advantage to a game-high 36 points. UVM shot 64.3% from the field in the third quarter and led 72-37 after 30 minutes.
- Local product Catherine Gilwee was the story of the fourth quarter for the Catamounts. She scored seven points in the final 2:06 of action as UVM cruised to its first win of the season.

- The Catamounts 87 points tonight mark a new-high under Mayer Women's Basketball Coach Alisa Kresge. Before tonight the previous high was 76 points against Loyola Chicago on November 8, 2019.
- Junior guard Emma Utterback was a picture-perfect point guard Tuesday night. She had a game-high 16 points, seven assists, and zero turnovers.
- As a team Vermont assisted on 19 of their 37 made field goals Tuesday night.
- Aryana Dizon, Catherine Gilwee and Maria Myklebust made their regular season green and gold debut Tuesday night. Together they accounted for 16 of Vermont's 25 bench points.
- With today's win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Vermont Foodbank as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative.
