COACH'S QUOTE
"Unfortunately, we didn't play a full 40 minutes on senior day," said Mayer Women's Basketball Head Coach
Alisa Kresge. "Our comeback was too little, too late. We are moving on and getting ready for the America East quarterfinals. We've proven that if we are focused and locked in for 40 minutes, we have a chance."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The River Hawks forced seven Vermont turnovers in the first quarter and built an 14-11 edge through the games initial ten minutes. Kharis Idom had seven points in the opening frame.
- In the second quarter the River Hawks went on a 13-0 run to seize control of what had been a back and forth affair. Tiahna Sears had five points in the UMass Lowell run. Hanna Crymble hit four free throws late in the half to cut UML lead to nine at the break.
- The River Hawks appeared to put the game out of reach with a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter, building a game-high lead of 19 points with 8:26 left in regulation. As they have so often this season the Catamounts refused to give in and they responded with a huge run of their own. Crymble had six points, Delaney Richason with five as UVM stormed back on a 17-2 run of their own.
- In the final 2:30 the Catamounts cut the River Hawks lead to two, twice. But each time Bri Stiers converted to help UMass Lowell maintain their edge. With two seconds left, down by three, Richason had a good look from downtown that just missed.
