BURLINGTON, Vt.  – Lindsey Abed's 21 points paced the second-place Hartford Hawks who outscored the Catamounts 24-7 in the third quarter rebounding from their second league loss of the season to defeat Vermont 76-48 from Patrick Gym Saturday afternoon. With the win Hartford improved to 10-2 in conference play while the Catamounts fell to 6-7. Saturday was Military Appreciation Presented by Milton CAT, all military members and their families received free tickets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an early Vermont bucket Hartford used an 8-0 run to establish an early edge. The Catamounts answered right back with two three-point plays. Courtney Wright completed a three-point play from the free throw line and Rose Caverly nailed a show from downtown to pull Vermont back within two. The Hawks took a 19-13 edge into the second frame.
- The Hawks again used an early run to earn some separation in the second quarter. A 5-0 Hartford run put the Hawks in front 24-15. Hanna Crymble had five points as UVM again answered the bell with a 10-0 run of their own to take a 25-24 lead with 3:25 left in the half. Sierra Smith made a layup with 18 seconds left in the half to give the Hawks a 31-27 edge headed to the locker room.
- In the third quarter the Hawks used a 18-0 run to establish a 49-30 lead. Hartford hit 11 of their 18 shot attempts in third quarter as the Hawks scored 24 points to pull away from Vermont and secure their tenth league win of the season.
INSIDE THE GAME
- Josie Larkins set a new career high with seven assists.
- All six Catamounts who played over 10 minutes had at least six points including four with eight or more points.
- Saturday was also Vermont's Spread Respect game. America East and UVM urges you to spread respect by insuring equality and safety for all coaches, student, and fans without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The team wore special Spread Respect shooting shirts.
WHO'S NEXT
Vermont is back at home to face UMBC on Wednesday Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. as the Catamounts continue America East play. Wednesday is the annual Catamount Classroom Presented by VSAC. VSAC is the administrator of the Vermont Higher Education Investment Plan, Vermont's 529 college savings plan. Groups from at least 12 local schools will be in attendance.
