Postgame - Coach Kresge

COACH'S QUOTE

"We had solid first half but when Dartmouth's experience started to show we lost what we do and they made us pay," said head coach Alisa Kresge. "We have things that we can build from and lots of things to learn from. I expect us to face new challenges as a young team and that's part of the process. We are going to keep focusing on the little details every day to help us be better in the long run."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Vermont opened the game strong with a 5-0 lead. Emma Utterback scored her first collegiate points to open the scoring and Rose Caverly added a three-pointer to give the Catamounts the early edge. Caverly had eight points in the opening quarter as UVM took a 13-10 advantage to the second.
  • Carly Whiteside scored her first two collegiate field goals in the second quarter and UVM pushed its lead to seven, 20-13 with 6:31 left in the second frame.
  • Josie Larkins hit her first three-pointer of the season to extend the Catamounts lead to eight with 2:31 left in the half. The Big Green closed the half on a 6-1 run to cut the Catamounts edge to three at the break.
  • The Big Green opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run and kept the pressure on the Catamounts. The teams were tied at 37 but the Big Green used an 11-0 run to take control. Whiteside answered back for the Catamounts with four straight points but Dartmouth took a 52-41 lead into the final frame.
  • The Catamounts were able to cut the lead to ten at multiple points in the fourth quarter but the Big Green always had an answer. They hit two momentum shifting three-pointers to hold Vermont back and win the season opener for both teams.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Freshmen Delaney Richason, Emma Utterback and Carly Whiteside saw their first game action for the Catamounts Tuesday night.
  • After shooting 5-10 from downtown in the first half the Catamounts were 2-17 from behind the arc in the second half.
  • Rose Caverly had five assists on the night, she had five or more assists in five games last season.
