REGULAR SEASON SUMMARY
UVM finished the regular season with an 6-8-3 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in conference play. The four victories during the league slate matched the most during
Kristi Huizenga's eight-year tenure. The Cats had one of the top defenses in America East. Vermont surrendered the third-fewest goals (22) and recorded the third-best goals-against average (1.29). The Green and Gold also posted the second-best save percentage (.794) among their conference rivals and finished third with five clean sheets.
AMERICA EAST POSTSEASON AWARDS
The Catamounts had three of their own earn America East postseason awards on Wednesday. Seniors
Brooke Jenkins and
Casey Garfinkel made the All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic Team while freshman
Alyssa Oviedo landed on the All-Rookie Team. Jenkins collects her second straight Second Team All-Conference honor after leading the Cats in points (11), goals (4), and sharing the team lead in assists (3). Garfinkel set new career highs with seven points, three assists, and two goals in her final campaign. Oviedo led all UVM underclassmen with six points in 17 games played this season.
TOURNAMENT BOUND CATS
The Cats will be making their fourth straight America East Tournament appearance, a first for the program, and their seventh trip in the last eight years. Vermont has advanced to three straight America East Semifinals, including the school's first ever title game berth last season. In the last two years, UVM has pulled off the upsets as the No. 6 seed.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter the postseason as one of the hottest teams in the league. UMass Lowell has registered a 4-2-1 record in its last seven matches. UML has the second-highest scoring offense among America East teams during the regular season. The River Hawks notched the fourth-most points (80) and goals (30). UMass Lowell had four players take home All-America East honors, including two All-Conference First Team selections. Rachel Morrier was named Midfielder of the Year and ranked third among conference leaders with 26 points and 10 goals. Dunja Mostarac was a part of a defensive unit that held its opponents to one goal or less 11 times. Mostarac also made the All-Rookie Team along with freshmen Kristina Bartsch and Emily Nelson.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The conference rivals will meet for the first time in the postseason as the River Hawks have earned their first ever America East Tournament bid. Thursday's match will be the seventh meeting all-time as UML holds a slight 2-3-1 edge over UVM. The two programs met a week ago at Virtue Field in Vermont's regular season finale with UMass Lowell coming away with a 2-1 win.
