SETTING THE SCENE
The Catamounts are coming off their fourth straight contest with at least one overtime period and their third victory during the same stretch. UVM owns the second-highest scoring average in America East at 1.50 goals per game and the team has taken the second-most shots with 99 attempts.
Sarah Martin is locked into third place among league scorers with seven points on two goals and three assists.
Brooke Jenkins follows in seventh place with five points on two goals and one assist. In net,
Coco Speckmaier ranks second in the conference with six goals allowed and matched a league season-high with 10 saves at American on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
Jenkins netted the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute and gave Vermont a 1-0 double overtime victory at American. With two minutes remaining in regulation,
Ella Bankert came within inches of giving UVM the lead. The freshman was positioned on the left side of the box and sent a low shot past the reach of American goalie Ryleigh Brown, but the attempt rolled too wide of the far post. In double overtime, Martin lofted a pass to the far side of the box where Jenkins lined a shot from 15 yards out for the walk-off victory.
HOT START
UVM's 4-2 start to begin the 2017 campaign is the best six-game record since 2004 (4-1-1). For the 10th time in program history, Vermont has jumped out to four wins through the first six matches. In the seventh game, six of the previous 10 UVM teams have picked up their fifth victory and the current Cats will try to become the first squad since 1996 to accomplish the feat.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Catamounts are 3-0 on their home turf for the fifth time (2003, 1984, 1979, 1978) in school history and the group will be seeking their first 4-0 start at home since 1984. The 1984 team finished 6-1 at home and qualified for the program's only NCAA Tournament berth.
BREAKING INTO THE TOP-10
Speckmaier posted her 12th career victory on Sunday which moved her into a 10th-place tie on the UVM's all-time wins list. The clean sheet at American also tied her with former teammate Ally Ramos '16 for ninth place with eight career shutouts. Speckmaier's 1.20 career goals-against average has pushed her up the career GAA ladder into sixth place.
SCOUTING MARIST
The Red Foxes enter Tuesday evening at 3-4 overall and 1-1 against America East teams on the year. Marist suffered a tough 2-1 loss at Maine on Sunday but all three victories have resulted in a shutout including a 1-0 outing against UNH on Aug. 27. The Red Foxes have tallied 25 points on eight goals and seven assists for the fourth-highest scoring offense in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Alex Svensson leads the team with six points and has dealt a league-leading four assists. Camille Bowen and Nicole Sasso trail with two goals apiece. Senior keeper Makala Foley has appeared in all seven games and earned five starts between the goalposts. Foley ranks third among MAAC goalies with a 0.90 goals-against average.
INSIDE THE SERIES
UVM and Marist have met six times in the all-time series and the Cats hold a commanding 4-1-1 edge. Last year, the Red Foxes reached the win column for the first time against the Green and Gold with a 4-2 victory in the season opener. Vermont has seen solid offensive production against Marist by outscoring the Red Foxes 19-8.
