Yale Recap
Last Sunday, FreshmanÂ
Julia Smith notched two goals for her first career multi-goal game to lift the Catamounts to a 2-1 win over Yale at Virtue Field. In the fourth minute,Â
Alex Jenkins gathered the ball in the midfield and fed a through ball towards Smith. Two Yale defenders failed to corral the ball in front of Smith and she was able to dribble in alone against goalkeeper Alyssa Fagel. Smith coasted into the box before firing a hard low shot toward the far post to give the Catamounts an early advantage. Smith struck again in the 76
th minute burying a volley into the back left corner off a feed from
Casey Garfinkel. Yale got one back in the 80
th minute but the UVM held off the final push to win the final game of the homestand.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Since getting off to the best start in program history (3-0), the Citadel has dropped two straight heading into Friday's matchup with the Catamounts. Katherine Arroyo and Mady Riegel each have two goals and one assist this season to pace the Bulldogs offensively while Logan Leask posted shutouts in all three Citadel wins. Under the guidance of first-year head coach
Ciaran Traquair, the Bulldogs were picked to finish 10th in the Southern Conference prior to the season.
Â
Scouting the Buccaneers
A veteran squad picked to finish seventh in the Big South, Charleston Southern comes into the weekend with a 3-3-0 overall record and will face Jacksonville St. before squaring off with the Catamounts. The Buccaneers are coming off a 4-0 shutout of The Citadel – Vermont's Friday opponent – and have not conceded goals in any of their three wins. Senior striker Anna Sells scored twice against the Bulldogs last weekend and has posted five goals this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Liz Amanda Brown is the reigning Big South Defensive Player of the Week after her clean sheet against The Citadel. Â
