BURLINGTON, Vt. –
The Vermont Catamounts out scored Wagner 14-7 in overtime to post an 82-75 come-from-behind victory in non-conference women's basketball action at Patrick Gymnasium on Sunday. UVM wins its second straight game to improve to 2-7, while Wagner remains winless and drops to 0-8 on the year.

Vermont freshman Sydney Smith recorded a new career-high for the sixth straight game, netting a team-leading 25 points, including the game-tying 3-pointer with 6.5 seconds remaining in regulation to force the overtime session.

Senior Niki Taylor, playing in her 100th career game, added 16 points, 10 of which came in overtime, and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the year and eighth of her career. Emilie Cloutier posted her second straight double-double for the Catamounts, scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 16 boards and Kylie Butler chipped in 12 points, including 10 from the foul line (10-for-13), to round out the leading scorers for Vermont.

Jasmine Nwajei led all scorers, pouring in 39 points, and grabbing 11 rebounds to pace Wagner.

The Catamounts led 14-5 at the 12:53 mark of the first half, but Wagner responded with a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes to take a 24-17 lead with just over five minutes left in the half took a 33-25 advantage into the locker room.

The Seahawks maintained their lead throughout the second half and held a 65-59 advantage with 3:20 remaining in regulation. Taylor's layup at the 2:58 mark sparked the UVM comeback. The Catamounts closed the half with a 9-3 spurt to force the overtime.

Jordan Eisler made a pair of free throws with 1:36 showing on the clock to tie the game up at 65. Nwajei drained a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to give Wagner a 68-65 lead, but Vermont pushed the ball up the floor and Smith hit a 3-pointer with 6.5 seconds showing to knot the game up at 68. Wagner's shot from half court hit the backboard and the rim but bounced out and the game moved into overtime.

Two layups by Taylor and one by Smith to open the overtime gave Vermont a 74-70 lead. Nwajei made a basket to slice the lead to two with 2:59 left in the extra session, but that would be as close as Wagner would get the rest of the way. UVM put together an 8-0 run to close out the overtime earn the victory.

Vermont returns to action on Wednesday (Dec. 17) when it faces St. Francis Brooklyn in Brooklyn, New York. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard on WVMT-620 AM (online: SportsJuice.com) with Kevin Fitzgerald calling the action.
