The 2016-17 season was Brian Donoghue's first at Vermont as an assistant coach.
Donoghue's first season in Burlington saw the Catamounts make tremendous strides both on and away from the hardwood. UVM opened the America East schedule with a splash, taking down Maine which had advanced to the previous two WNIT tournaments. Hanna Crymble collected America East All-Rookie Team honors and Sydney Smith was named to the league’s All-Academic Team. The Green and Gold also registered the top field goal percentage defense in America East (36.1 percent) and second-best defense from behind the arc (29.5 percent).
He came to UVM after 11 seasons as head coach at Division III King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, compiling an overall record of 163-129. Under his guidance, the Lady Monarchs made seven trips to the Freedom Conference Tournament and five appearances in the WBCA Division III Academic Top 25. In 2011-12, King's advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and won 24 games, one short of tying a program record.
