"I'm so excited about the launch of The Barry Stone Fund," said Cioffi Men's Basketball Coach
John Becker. "This fund will be used for our NIL program which will help us in the recruitment and retention of our student-athletes. Thank you to all of our fans and supporters."
There will be a special benefit concert to support the Barry Stone Fund on Wednesday, September 10 at Halvorson's Upstreet Café. Coach Becker and his band "The Cats" will perform from 6:30-9 p.m. as part of the Courtyard Music Series.
The Barry Stone Fund was established in December 2024 to support men's basketball recruitment and retention. Barry embraced a lifelong connection to his alma mater and served as Chair of several important UVM Committees and Boards, including the UVM Regional Board, the UVM Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, and the UVM Athletic Council. He was also a founding executive committee member of the UVM Victory Club, a member of the UVM Foundation Leadership Council, and a key fundraiser for many university projects.
Barry loved the UVM Men's Basketball team and was awarded the UVM Athletic Department Award in 1986 for his incredible support. He was a member of several varsity basketball head coach search committees and readily gave his physical, emotional, and financial support to generations of UVM basketball players from the 1950s to 2020s.
