COACH'S QUOTE
"We are proud of our gritty effort tonight to come up with two goals in the final minutes", said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "We were dominant in possession for much of the game and unfortunately gave up two counters that dug us a hole. Northeastern was very organized and disciplined defensively which was difficult to break down but I thought we showed a lot of composure to finally break through."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont's Jazlyn Oviedo and Emma Warren each took early chances at the net in the first half, coming inches of the top right corner, but their shots soared high keeping the match scoreless.
- The Huskies struck first in the 25th minute when Lauren Ahles secured her first goal of the season, earning Northeastern the 1-0 lead. Lughano Nyondo was awarded the assist.
- It only took UVM 27 seconds to create a scoring opportunity while opening the second frame, seeing Gardner ring a shot of the left post, sending the ball out of bounds for a goal kick.
- The Huskies doubled its lead in the 52nd minute after Claire Murray displayed nifty footwork, creating space to rip a shot to the top right corner, securing her fourth goal of the season and giving the Huskies a 2-0 advantage.
- Northeastern did a good job taming UVM's offense throughout the second half, but the Catamounts broke through in the 85th minute, creating chaos in front of the net that resulted in Elizabeth Sommeling tapping in her first collegiate goal of her career, cutting the deficit in half bringing Vermont to within one, 2-1.
- It took the Catamounts just 1:18 later to score the match-tying goal, seeing Torie Snyder send a delightful cross to the box finding the head of Gardner, pinning the ball to the right corner of the net, giving Vermont the clutch equalizing goal in the 86th minute of action.
