COACH'S QUOTE
"It's always tough to win on the road," said Head Coach
Rob Dow. "To win the game we needed to have sharper edge in the attack: more aggressive in our duals, more crosses etc. All good thing to internal reflect on to be ready for Monday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UVM saw their first prime scoring chance in the ninth minute when Ioannis Vassiliou soared through the air, heading the ball on net, catching a cross from Marcell Papp, but Matthew Tibbetts held his ground, making his first save of the match to keep Vermont scoreless.
- Vermont nearly scored once again in the 23rd minute when Papp set up David Ismail right in front of the net, wasting no time taking a shot with his left foot, but Tibbetts made an incredible reactionary save, using his right foot to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The match remained scoreless with time winding down in the first half.
- The Catamounts finally broke through in the 32nd minute, seeing Nico Loebus intercept American's attempt to break out, attracting all the American defenders towards him which allowed Gabriel Chavez to find space on the far side of the goal. Loebus sent a pass to Chavez, who used his left foot to tap in his first goal as a Catamount, earning UVM the first lead, 1-0.
- In the 51st minute, Jeremy Tsang had a beautiful strike on the ball towards the net from outside the goalie's box, but a diving save from Tibbetts resulting in the ball being punched out of bounds, keeping the Vermont lead at 1-0.
- American broke through in the 72nd minute, scoring the first goal on Vermont all season, seeing Troy Elgersma tally his second goal on the campaign, knotting the match at 1-1.
- Neither team found the back of the net another time as the 90th minute struck, seeing the match end in a 1-1 draw.
