COACH'S QUOTE
"We're very happy with today's result and with two wins and two shutouts this week," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "With the midweek game we didn't have much time to prepare for this one, and Holy Cross has a very specific style that can be difficult to break down. The team executed exactly what we asked of them today."
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite a slow start to the match, Vermont was able to rifle off five of their eight first half shots in the final 12 minutes of the opening frame, but no team could find the back of the net as both squads entered halftime knotted at 0-0.
- The Catamounts saw a prime scoring chance in the 58th minute when Weiss escaped from her defender, finding herself all alone on the right side of the box, taking her shot and placing it wide left, keeping the score tied at 0-0.
- In the 77th minute, Karenna Beckstein crossed the ball to the box, trickling in front of Jenelle Murphy who had a wide-open net, but senior defender Torie Snyder made a goal saving block to ricochet the ball out of bounds, keeping the game even, 0-0.
- Vermont got on the scoreboard in the 84th minute when Weiss beat her defender one-on-one, lofting the ball towards the net with her right foot, she placed her shot just over the goalkeeper's head to give the Catamounts a 1-0 lead with just under six minutes left to play.
- Carafoli was perfect all match long, saving every shot sent her way, ending the match with three total saves and earning Vermont its second straight shutout victory.
