COACH'S QUOTE
"It's nice for this group to get another win and another couple of goals tonight. Sacred Heart always comes out hard and is a good game for us to have as we prep for conference," said Head Coach Kristi Huizenga. "We wanted to focus on having a good start and I thought we did just that. We were able to spread out minutes as well which is very valuable for us in getting everyone experience."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont struck first in the fifth minute when Kate Bossert was tripped up in the box, earning her a penalty kick. Bossert capitalized, placing her shot in the bottom left corner, earning her third goal of the season and giving the Catamounts an early 1-0 lead.
- In the 19th minute, the Catamounts made it 2-0 when Bailey Ayer lobbed a pass ahead to Sydney Remington in prime scoring position, rearing to the middle of the field Remington unleashed a shot to the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season, earning Vermont the two-goal advantage.
- The Pioneer's saw their best chance of the half when Grace O'Hara was streaking down the right side with one defender to beat, but Olivia White was there to make a perfect slide tackle, kicking the ball out of play to keep the Pioneer's scoreless. Vermont went into halftime ahead, 2-0.
- Sacred Heart bounced back in the second half, scoring in the 47th minute after a cluster unfolded in front of the Catamount net, taking advantage of a loose ball and cutting the deficit in half, 2-1.
- Despite the Pioneer's applying pressure late in the second half, Vermont was able to tame the offensive push, bending but not breaking, keeping Sacred Heart out of the net for the remainder of the match earning their third win in a row, defeating SHU 2-1.
