Women’s Soccer Faces Road Test Against Siena on Wednesday

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Catamounts (1-1-3) look to continue their non-conference play on the road against MAAC foe Siena (2-3) on Wednesday, Sep. 4 at 4 p.m. ET from Loudonville, N.Y. at Hickey Field. The match is Vermont's second road match of the season and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

VERMONT OUTLOOK
  • Bailey Ayer continues to stay hot to start the season registering four goals on 14 shots with eight coming on net. Her four goals scored is ranked first in the America East while her shots taken is ranked third and her shots on target is tied for second. She also stands alone at the top of the America East rankings in total points, securing eight total on her four goals.
  • Junior Lauren DeGroot has tallied one goal, and one assist this season which has her tied for sixth among America East players in total points. Her four shots on goal also has her tied for sixth in the conference in that department.
  • Graduate student Jill Brody is tied for seventh in the America East conference with 10 shots while senior Kate Bossert cracks the top 20 in the shots department earning seven thus far. Bossert also secured her first point of the season against FDU, earning an assist during the 1-1 draw.
  • Despite playing three out of the first five games this season, junior goalkeeper Kylee Carafoli ranks fifth amongst the America East Conference in saves per game with 4.00.
  • Vermont has spread the wealth through the first five games of the season with five different goal scorers. Ayer leads Vermont with four goals, including one game winner against Saint Anselm. Ayer recorded a goal in four of the first five games of the season for the first time in her career. DeGroot is second on the team in points with three after registering a goal against Saint Anselm and an assist against UConn. Freshman Farrah Yaacoub scored her first career goal against Saint Anselm and Sophomore's Emma Warren and Aubrey Bough each tallied their first career goals, Bough against UConn and Warren versus Boston University. Midfielders Sydney RemingtonElizabeth Sommeling, and Brody each have recorded an assist for Vermont as well.
  • The Catamounts return four America East All-Conference members from their 2023 squad, Kate Bossert, Bailey Ayer, Maddy Cronin, and Bridget Kennedy.
  • Vermont was picked to finish fifth in the America East 2024 Women's Soccer Preseason Coach's Poll.
 
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
  • The Saints enter Wednesday's matchup with a 2-3 record coming off a 2-1 loss versus St. Thomas (MN) on Sunday during their home opener. Siena started the season with four straight road games, collecting a 2-2 record, securing a 1-0 victory over Bryant and a 3-1 win over Le Moyne. The Saints were shutout by Lafayette 3-0 in the season opener and shutout by Syracuse 2-0 for their second loss. 
  • Through five games the Saints have been outscored 5-8, while holding their opponents to one goal or less just twice.
  • Siena is led by freshman Catherine Rogers who has three goals and one assist. Rogers also leads the team in shots with 15 and seven on target.
  • The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year, Megan Stowell, has earned four points thus far on one goal and two assists.
  • Siena was selected to finish ninth in the MAAC Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, which has been expanded to 13 teams this season. The Saints were predicted to finish with 75 total points.
  • Along with Stowell, the Saints bring back fellow sophomore Abby Daly who was named to the Third Team All-MAAC last season.
  • The Catamounts hold a 6-9-2 all-time record against Siena, having won three meetings in a row dating back to the 2018 season. Last season, Vermont defeated the Saints 2-1 at Virtue Field. After trailing 1-0 in the first half, two second half goals from Bossert and Brody propelled the Catamounts to victory for their third straight win versus Siena.
