FINAL SCORE: Vermont 1, Concordia 3
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Despite an early goal from Brooke George, the Catamounts fell 3-1 to Concordia during their lone exhibition game of the season on Sunday night from Gutterson Fieldhouse during the Home Opener presented by TD Bank.

"There was a lot to learn from today's game and that was really the ultimate goal," said Head Coach Jim Plumer. "We did some good things out there but also, we see where we can improve. I'm excited to have 2 weeks to improve before we open the season."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• George scored the first goal of the year for the Catamounts 6:18 into the first period after corralling a loose puck at the top of the right circle, where she ripped a shot past the glove of Concordia's goalkeeper to give Vermont the 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Ezra Oien was awarded an assist on the goal.
• Concordia knotted the score 1-1 on the powerplay after a cross-crease pass got deflected, leaving a loose puck in the goalie's crease where Zoe Thibault was there to bury it and bring the Stingers back to even at the 14:20 mark of the second period.
• At the 10:30 mark of the second period, the Stingers flipped the puck out of their own zone during a breakout attempt, finding Caroline Moquin Joubert who had one defender to beat. On her way to the net, Joubert was able to flip the puck with her backhand over the UVM goalies' right pad to give Concordia the 2-1 advantage just about halfway through the second frame.
• Concordia sealed the deal in the third frame with 3:53 left to play when Leonie Philbert ripped a shot top left blocker side high, giving the Stingers the late 3-1 lead. No goals were scored the remainder of the game as Concordia came out victorious, 3-1.

 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• George secured her second career goal after tallying the first goal of the season for Vermont. George also finished with one blocked shot.
• Oien registered her second career assist against Concordia.
• Alaina Tanski earned a team high two blocked shots.
• Natalie Zarcone earned a team high three shots.

 
UP NEXT
Following the exhibition game with Concordia, the Catamounts get just under two weeks of no games before they hit the road for the regular season opener in Potsdam, N.Y. where they will face off against Clarkson on Friday Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. and Saturday Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
